Right next to Las Vegas is the Red Rock Canyon. You can easily drive through it by car. However, there are many places to stop and signposted hiking trails available - you should definitely do it once, leave the car, go into the canyon - take water with you.

Since it is not big, you can take it on the way to Detah Valley just take it with you.
