Hoover Dam, located on the border between Nevada and Arizona, turns the Colorado River into Lake Mead.
It is an imposing structure - but it also shows the wastefulness - for years, the level of Lake Mead is rapidly decreasing - if you pump water into the desert, no wonder.
A visit to the interior of the dam should not be missing. Here you can take the elevator down to the power plant 200 m lower.
Even a leisurely drive through the Black Rock Canyon with the Emerald Cave (famous for its green fluroscent grotto) is a nice destination.
