Castries is the capital of Saint Lucia, one of the many islands in the Caribbean. Originally settled by the Arawak Indians, Saint Lucia was later colonized by the Europeans and alternated several times between French and British rule.
The most important sights in Castries include the Cathedral of Saint Lucia, which was built in the French-colonial style, and Derek Walcott Square, named after the famous writer and Nobel Prize winner who was born on the island.
