I love Croatia, not only because of the beautiful landscape, but also because of the very nice people. One goal was to photograph a few interesting places from the air.
Pula
is the largest city in Istria (Croatia) and has a very long history. As early as 177 BC, Pula was conquered by the Romans and given the name Colonia Pietas Iulia Pola. Today's landmark - the Amphithearter - was built under Emperor Augustus.
However, the first settlement goes back to the 10th century BC.
Rovinj -
In the 2nd century the Romans gave the name to Rovinj Ruginium
. In the 7th century the city was in Rovigno
renamed. Received its current name
Rovinj
after 1945 under Yugoslav rule.
The landmark of Rovinj
is the baroque church of St. Euphemia
(Santa Eufemia) - often known as the Basilica of St. Euphemia
- and drowns out the old town.
